Join the Miller Center for a conversation examining how artificial intelligence is reshaping work and what that transformation may mean for American democracy.

Panelists examine AI's likely effects on jobs and workers in the short and medium term, the evolving balance between federal and state regulation, and the political stakes of rapid change. The last major economic shock, the loss of manufacturing jobs to trade, reshaped politics for a generation and eroded trust in government, and AI is arriving faster and more unevenly. The panelists discuss how displaced workers can make themselves heard, who has a say in decisions about AI and the data centers that power it, and what government at every level can do to strengthen democratic institutions rather than strain them.

Chris Lu, the Miller Center's James R. Schlesinger Distinguished Professor and a veteran of the Obama and Biden administrations, moderates a conversation with Miller Center Senior Fellow Astri Kimball Van Dyke, former head of global competition policy at Google, and Virginia Secretary of Labor Jessica Looman.
